There were about 6 mussel shells that I made molds of with silicon. Then each shell was alush cold-cast with aluminum powder for the first layer and regular plastic layer for the second. The resin I used was Smoothcast 300Q in order to save as much time as possible while in the casting phase. I used 0000 steel wool to bring out the shine. Then a slight layer of ebony rub-n-buff was used to add contrast and bring out the ridges on each shell. I took any excess rub-n-buff coloring off with steel wool and then used wax to polish them off and help seal the rub-n-buff on. Took about 3-4 months to completely build the 425 shells necessary for the armor.

Your armor looks good, I´m going to make one too. At first I thought about making the scales from plastic spoons but then I decided to make it from mussel shells like you did, but I don´t know how to use molds or how to cast. Do you think I can use the shells directly? Of course (somehow) strengthened.
